Since Text Edit Plus is meant to be an alternative to Microsoft’s Notepad, let’s quickly compare the two, shall we? Both Text Edit Plus and Notepad are plain text editors that you can use to create and edit .TXT files. While Notepad offers a basic set of features, Text Edit Plus adds a few extras to the list, like the option to encode and decode text, combine lines, delete empty lines, generate a word list, and so on. Notepad is a free tool that’s built into the Windows operating system, and Text Edit Plus is a 3rd party shareware application priced at $9.99 at the time of writing this.

Things are pretty clear-cut as far as I see it. If you’re okay with the basic functionality that Notepad has to offer and you don’t want any extras, then you don’t need Text Edit Plus. If you want a plain text editor that has more features than Notepad, then you should go and give Text Edit Plus a try. And if you need a free productivity suite that includes a proper word processor and text editor, go get something like Apache OpenOffice or LibreOffice.

You’ll have to go through a standard installation procedure to get started with Text Edit Plus: download an installer, run it, and then follow the instructions presented onscreen by a setup wizard. Once you’re done with that and you launch Text Edit Plus for the first time, you’ll have to enter your email address to start using this plain text editor.

Here’s one more thing that Text Edit Plus has in common with Notepad: a simple interface that’s very easy to figure out. The main panel displays the text you’re working on, at the top there’s File Menu and a toolbar with buttons for various features & functions.

As mentioned at the start, Text Edit Plus is an alternative to Notepad, a tool that offers more features than Microsoft’s plain text editor. Here’s a closer look at these extra features: full screen view, text encoding, import picture as text, key press simulator, randomize lines, insert date & time, insert numbers, insert text, clip lines, combine lines, delete unnecessary lines, filter lines, generate word list, sort lines, change text to uppercase or lowercase, compare two texts, extract text, and more.

Text Edit Plus is shareware, priced at $9.99 at the time of writing this. The trial will bring up a registration reminder every time you launch the application.

Looking for an alternative to Notepad, a tool that has more features than Microsoft’s plain text editor? Vovsoft says that you should give Text Edit Plus a try!

Pros

Installing Text Edit Plus on a Windows PC is a very simple task. Text Edit Plus has a basic interface that’s very easy to use. Text Edit Plus is a plain text editor, just like Notepad; but it has more features to offer.

Cons

Trial limitations: nag screen.
